Charging cable for electric cars

Refuel at charging stations at any time with the Mode 3 charging cable

The Mode 3 charging cable should be part of the basic equipment of every electric car owner. With this charging cable, you can refuel your electric car at public charging stations. You need a Mode 3 charging cable if you don't want to charge your vehicle at the socket at home. And there is a good argument for this: refueling at a charging station is much faster than at a conventional socket.
You need a Mode 3 charging cable if you don't want to charge your vehicle at a household outlet.
To ensure that you can charge your electric car whenever you are on the road, you should get yourself a Mode 3 charging cable. That way, you'll always have the right charging system in your trunk.

Mode 3 charging cable: standard at public charging stations

Public charging stations do not have a permanently integrated charging cable. So to charge electric vehicles there, you have to bring the right cable with the right plug types yourself. All German charging stations are equipped with a Type 2 socket as standard. Therefore, you need a Mode 3 charging cable with a Type 2 plug on one side and the correct plug for your electric car on the other.
Specifically, this means that you need the right cable with the right type of plug.
Specifically, this means that for a car with a Type 1 connector (American or Asian vehicles), you will need a Type 2 to Type 1 Mode 3 charging cable. If your electric car has a Type 2 connector, you will need a Type 3 to Type 2 charging cable. The advantage of this charging cable is that the charging plug is locked on both sides when the car is closed. This means that the charging process cannot be interrupted by external interference.
How fast the car is charged depends on the number of phases and the amperage of the charging cable. For example, a three-phase charging cable with 32 A and a Type 2 plug charges twice as fast as a single-phase charging cable with 32 A and a Type 2 plug.?

Charging at home with the Mode 3 charging cable

A Mode 3 charging cable is not only used at public charging stations, but also if you want to connect your electric car to more than one grounded outlet at home. This is possible with a wallbox, which is a permanently installed charging station in the garage or outside the house. With the wallbox, you can shorten the charging time because it offers significantly more charging power: up to 22 kW instead of 2.3 kW at one outlet.
The wallbox also works with a Mode 3 charging cable, which in most cases is already permanently connected to the box and does not need to be purchased separately. However, it is also important to know which charging socket your vehicle requires.
As a rule, a Mode 3 charging cable is about five meters long. In most cases, this is sufficient to bridge the distance between the charging station or wallbox and the electric car. However, the cables are also available in double the length.
