Charging an electric car at home

Easy charging at home with the wallbox

There is no more convenient way to charge your electric car than with a wallbox. You park the car in the garage or carport and connect it to the mains via the wall charging station until the next time you use it. We offer two options for this.

Is a wall charging station worthwhile for my electric car?

If you have bought an electric car for the first time, you may be wondering whether you should buy a wallbox. Two facts speak for it: Firstly, electric cars are mainly charged at home charging stations and the wallbox offers the most efficient charging process. Secondly, charging at the e-wallbox at home is much cheaper than at public charging stations.

A classic wallbox like the LAPP Mobility Wallbox Home must always be installed by a qualified electrician. This is because the wall charging station requires a power connection, regardless of whether it is to be installed indoors or outdoors. Therefore, there are initially some costs associated with the wallbox. However, charging at home is cheaper in the long run. Faster charging at the wall charging station

With a wallbox with a charging capacity of up to 11 kW, you can charge your e-car up to five times faster than at a household socket. A wallbox that can charge at 22 kW is even ten times faster. However, a permit from the grid operator is required for installation. Therefore, a DC wallbox with 22 kW (i.e. connected to the heavy current) charges the battery the fastest.

The charging time always depends on other factors, such as the size of the battery (today a maximum of approx. 100 kWh) and the current state of charge. The outside temperature and the battery management of the vehicle can also influence the time it takes to charge your electric car at home.

Which wallbox suits my e-car?

The right wallbox for your e-car should be matched to the charging power of your car (from 3.6 kilowatts to 22 kilowatts) and have the right charging plug. A wallbox with a type 2 cable and a charging capacity of 11 kW is suitable for most of the electric cars currently used in Europe. If you drive an American or Asian electric car, you will need a wallbox with a type 1 charging connection.
